In a perfect world, we’d all just use the restroom and no one would give a shit where we shat.

Alas, recently there have been people who threw a shit fit about where people shit. Specifically, trans people. Some old white guys in government have it in their heads that transwomen want to molest little girls and attack women in restrooms, even when the evidence points toward straight men being the problem in women’s restrooms, and transwomen being more at risk if they’re required to use the men’s room.

Look: Who cares if the person in the stall next to you is male, female, trans, neither male nor female, intersex, genderqueer, or a unicorn? We’re all there for the same base reason: pee or poo in peace, then wash our hands (please wash your hands; it’s flu season!) and get out.

REFUGE Restrooms launched in 2015, but just came to my notice recently. It’s a listing and a guide to safe restrooms, those that are single-stall or gender neutral. Anyone can use this app, so I encourage everyone to download it and think about the restroom wherever you are. At a Target? Is there a family restroom? Make sure it’s in the app. At a local burger joint that has signs explicitly stating anyone can use either bathroom? Add that awesome place to the map.

Check out REFUGE Restrooms on the web, on Facebook, or just go straight to your app store and download it for free. Help a sister* out.
